The Czech Republic (i/ˈtʃɛk rᵻˈpʌblɪk/ CHEK-rə-PUB-lik;Czech: Česká republika [ˈt͡ʃɛskaː ˈrɛpuˌblɪka]) is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the southeast and Poland to the northeast. The capital and largest city, Prague, has over 1.2 million residents. The Czech Republic includes the historical territories of Bohemia,Moravia, and Czech Silesia.
The Czech state was formed in the late 9th century as the Duchy of Bohemia under the Great Moravian Empire. After the fall of the Empire in 907, the centre of power transferred from Moravia to Bohemia under the Přemyslids. In 1004, the duchy was formally recognized as part of the Holy Roman Empire, becoming the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1212, and reaching its greatest territorial extent in the 14th century. The King of Bohemia ruled not only Bohemia itself, but also other lands, which together formed the so-called Crown of Bohemia, and he had a vote in the election of the Holy Roman Emperor. In the Hussite wars of the 15th century driven by the Bohemian Reformation, the kingdom faced economic embargoes and defeated five crusades proclaimed by the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church and organized mainly by the emperor and princes of the Holy Roman Empire.
Wine in the Czech Republic is produced mainly in southern Moravia, although a few vineyards are located in Bohemia. However, Moravia accounts for around 96% of the country's vineyards, which is why Czech wine is more often referred to as Moravian wine . Production centers on local grape varieties, but there has been an increase in the production of established international strains such as Cabernet Sauvignon.
In the 2nd Century CE, the Roman 10th Legion based at Vindobona built an extensive outpost near the Amber Road and the Pálava Hills in Mikulovská, near the present-day village of Pasohlávky. Around the year 278, the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus annulled the edict of Emperor Domitian that had prohibited the planting of grapes in colonies north of the Alps, and encouraged the planting of new vines in the northern Roman colonies. Modern-day archaeological excavations of the ancient Roman outpost near Pasohlávky have yielded many artifacts, including a vine pruning knife. Wine historians theorize that, during the Roman occupation, the Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling grape varieties may have been introduced to the region. Viticulture was practiced during the Great Moravian Empire (833–906), as evidenced by numerous pruning knives and grape seeds unearthed during archaeological excavations of Slavic settlements.
Team Czech Republic participated in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition in the year 2015. It consisted of members from Georgiev Lab located at the University of West Bohemia (UWB) and students from the Charles University in Prague.
Summer after high school waiting on the moment to change
I got a couple more weeks till I'm out of the house
And then were gonna go our separate ways
And all the Hometown Heroes stick around and all get a job
And the kids with good grades are making minimum wage
To pay tuition for a school at the top and all the college kids in the streets uptown
I walk the whole damn campus down
She asks what I want to do. I said, "I don't have a clue,
But I'm already thinking 'bout getting out"
'Cause everybody's always talking 'bout how these are the best years they'll ever see
They just fall in line
Like they don't even mind somebody telling them who they're gonna be
Well I don't want anyone telling me where I'm gonna go or who I'm gonna see
Ain't gonna fall in line like I don't even mind somebody telling me who I'm gonna be
Czech Republic border French-kiss me on a Midnight Train
With the wine on the window Timeless Encounter Girl
It's time to kick nostalgia out of my brain
Cause I don't want anyone telling me where I'm gonna go or who I'm gonna see
